​Certification Requirements Birth Labor Doula Course (Also Called "Birth Basics")

Our list of requirements include the following:
ž1. Book Reviews (3 Books – see list below). Each book will be 1,000 word essay over important points (evidence based, pregnancy, newborn, etc.).
ž2. 20 Resource List for Pregnant or postpartum mothers. (We started in this module)
ž3. All Tower of Doula Care© Projects (unless otherwise noted – you can waive one).
ž4. All Module Projects (not every module has a project).
ž5. Pregnancy Research Paper – you will need to do one paper – you may use 3 resources (such as a book you already have, Internet Resources, Magazines or newspapers). We will give more details in another module.
ž6. Three Mother Interviews. One maybe over emotions of labor. The other 2 must be related to birth experiences and one must be a natural birth experience. Thank you.  There may be extra mother interview assignments as well please see modules.
ž7. Birth Attendance: Attend 2 births and do an extra research paper or 3 births and no extra paper. (You still have to do one required paper).
ž8. Quizzes: Each module we will have some quizzes. Sometimes it will be over all material in module or portion of material. You need to pass with 75%- 80% or better or re-take quiz.
ž9. Doula Term List: You will need to come up with a 60 Doula Term list. We will help you in the modules with this.
ž10. Skills Practice: There will be skills that you will have to turn into us (with pictures).
ž11. Watch some videos and review them. We will be adding in some birth, skills or other videos in the modules. If it shows “stars” *** beside the video or “for certification purposes” – make sure you review that video. We will give you criteria for reviews in next module.
ž12. Do assigned Case Studies from modules. Example: Interview a doula, Interview a CBE, etc.
ž13. Attend two childbirth classes (minimum). Try to find a hospital based course and go to one “natural” childbirth independent or Bradley or Hypno-doula type course. The hospital may charge a small fee for your attendance; you may want to call the hospital to see if they would waive that fee or not. Independent educators are more likely to waive fee.
ž14. Tour a Labor and Delivery Room
ž15. Certification Exam (Must pass with 80%--You can re-take two more times--extra fee $50 applies for third try only).
Congratulations! You are finished and will be considered "Blue Mountain Labor Doula Certified." You may use initials BMLD or BMLDC after your name.
